Should my company outsource digital marketing?

Digital marketing is always changing. What worked in Google AdWords (learn more about Google AdWords and why you keep hearing about it here) when it launched in 2000 is not necessarily what works today. Like the world of technology in general, digital marketers and software companies are always identifying ways to improve. In this case, change is not necessarily a bad thing (usually it is a really good thing). Continuous monitoring, reporting, and optimization allow companies to identify what is and is not working. When a mediocre process is replaced with an awesome process, this results in better results for advertisers and online marketers like yourself.

This is where a digital marketing expert comes in handy. Digital marketing specialists and/or agencies keep up with current trends so that you can focus on other things (like running your business).

On the flip side, the appealing about having someone in-house manage your online advertising (or managing it yourself) is that you are not paying for their expertise. You also don’t have to invest your time in communicating your brand with a marketing specialist because you already understand your company and your brand. With an outside specialist or marketing agency, there will always be a learning curve when it comes to understanding your business culture.

So, to answer your initial question, whether or not you should outsource digital marketing depends on your business needs and budget. For some people, outsourcing digital marketing makes perfect sense. For others, outsourcing digital marketing makes zero sense. Budget, resource, and time are all things to consider.
